Mariame Coulibaly

Fulbright Scholar

Marine Sciences

Mariame is a visiting Fulbright Scholar from Cote d’Ivoire and she has been at UConn since October 2015. Mariame is a faculty member at the Ecole Normale Superieure in Abidjan and is interested in the fate of metals, especially mercury (Hg), in the environment. One reason for her interest in Hg is because of the use of elemental Hg in gold extraction in Cote d’Ivoire by small-scale artisanal gold miners. Mariame is investigating the reduction of ionic Hg to elemental Hg in the dark and the processes that mediate these reactions, such as the role of organic matter and the importance of reactive surfaces such as iron sulfide. Details on her research and publications can be found on Researchgate.
