Kathleen (Kati) Gosnell
Graduate
Marine Sciences
Kati Gosnell joined the Mason Lab in January 2010. Kati obtained a BS degree in Oceanography from Humbolt State University. She defended her MS degree in Chemical Oceanography in December 2009 at Florida State University, working with Bill Landing. While at FSU, Kati gained much cruise experience by participating in cruises as part of the GEOTRACES Program and as part of the CLIVAR Program. Kati completed her PhD in Spring 2016. Her studies were focused on the uptake and trophic transfer of mercury (Hg) and methylmercury (MeHg) into phytoplankton and the trophic transfer to zooplankton. Here studies were conducted both in the laboratory and field and she completed cruises and sampling in the vicinity of Long Island Sound and the New England shelf, from Bermuda, and in the tropical Pacific Ocean. As detailed in the Completed Projects section, Kati’s research has lead to one publication, with another in review:
Gosnell, K., Mason, R. (2015). Mercury and methylmercury incidence and bioaccumulation in plankton from the central Pacific Ocean. Marine Chemistry, 177, 772-780.
Kati also worked on projects not directly related to her thesis research and this led to another publication on the Delaware River:
Gosnell, K., Balcom, P. H., Ortiz, V., DiMento, B., Schartup, A., Greene, R., Mason, R. (2015). Seasonal cycling and transport of mercury and methylmercury in the turbidity maximum of the Delaware estuary. Aquatic Geochemistry, 24.
She has also made presentations and had posters at various meetings. Kati left the lab in June 2016.
